Paraeducators work in the classroom to assist the teacher and reinforce classroom instruction for individual students or small/whole groups.

The minimum education requirement for a Paraeducator License is completion of at least 60 semester hours of college course work or a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.

In order to work as a Paraeducator, you need to have ONE of the following credentials:

  • An Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) with a Paraprofessional (PARA) endorsement (Para Educator License or ELS-PARA); or
  • A Short-Term Paraprofessional Approval (Short Term Para Educator Approval); or
  • A Substitute Teaching License; or
  • A Short-Term Substitute License (only valid until June 30, 2028); or
  • A Professional Educator License (PEL) with any type of endorsement
