U-46 students come from a wide range of different cultural backgrounds, and speak more than 95 languages. We strive to recruit teachers that reflect our community, which is why we partner with the Illinois State Board of Education to bring teachers from Spain and Mexico to U-46. This Recruitment Initiative provides both students and teachers with a unique, cross-cultural experience.
Benefits for International Teachers
- Compensated based on their educational history and years of experience
- Receive mentorship from experienced educators to guide in learning American teaching practices
Leaving home to teach and live in a new environment can be intimidating, but U-46 is there every step of the way. When our International Teachers first arrive in the United States, we provide temporary lodging and assistance in finding a permanent residence. Our liasions also assist in finding a car, opening a bank account, and getting onboarded to the district. Our support doesn’t end there- we have a mentorship program that connects Visiting International Teachers to a current teacher for support throughout their time in the program.
Our team visits Spain yearly to promote this experience and interview candidates. Visiting International Teachers must submit application materials in advance, demonstrate English proficiency, and interview with district officials to participate in our program.
