U-46 has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation (NAMM) for the last six years for its outstanding commitment to music education.

More than 12,000 students in U-46 are on their way to becoming bilingual and biliterate through our award-winning Dual Language program. This program was launched more than 50 years ago.

We offer five nationally certified magnet academies at our high schools, each with it's own focus, as follows:

Elgin High School: Gifted and Talented Academy
Larkin High School: Visual and Performing Arts Academy
South Elgin High School: Beacon Academy of Media & Digital Arts
Streamwood High School: Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Action, and Design (LEAD) Academy
The U-46 Planetarium celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2023, having introduced thousands of U-46 students to the wonders of space.

Recent state champions include South Elgin High School's Co-Ed Varsity Cheer Team, as well as a number of students who have earned statewide, first-place finishes in the Future Problem Solvers Bowl, Illinois Science Olympiad, the IHSA's eSports Series and Drama State Series, and HOSA- Future Health Professionals competition.
